Reviving this thread in a more appropriate place as well.

Back to posting battle reports, painting projects and all that other good stuff.

I'll kick off with some news that anyone into Fantasy, or thinking of getting into it, may want to know. I'm selling one of my old armies, an ice-themed Vampire Counts army, fully painted. I'm not sure how many folks here actually play or would be interested, but I might as well give it a shot. :gleeCurran:

After scanning through 3 pages in the off topic sub-forum I take it the old posts are completely gone then :pointsYuki:

Well to start things off Forge world has some new stuff up check it out here http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff also Chapter House Studious has pumped out a heresy jet bike http://chapterhousestudios.com/webshop/component/virtuemart/?page=shop.product_details&category_id=4&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=131 for 14.00USD comes with everything shown but the helm, shoulders and torso, judging by the torso itself from the pictures I'd say they are working on there own heresy armor marines.

Now as much as I would love to negotiate a price for your vampire counts Curran I'm tight on cash but who knows how spring will look.

If you can order from them, Maelstrom Games is a reliable enough place to mail-order from. Cheaper than in-store purchases many times as well. 'Course, you trade in being able to spend five minutes, drive to the nearest GW, and have it in your hands within the hour for this, but unless you're making spontaneous list changes for a tournament / game going on soon that's typically not a bad thing.

Hm, Curran, are you aware that the speculation is high on Vampire Counts being the next WHFB book (either a straight-up Army Book, or more probably a White Dwarf release)? With rumors that Bloodlines may be coming back? Just putting it out so that you don't go "Fuuu-" a month later, but at the same time as a warning that depending on how the new book goes (if there even is one) this might also be the best time to sell. Look at how many people want to buy SoB lists now, for example.

Hmmm, I didn't Pontius, and that kinda surprises me, given how many other races need an army book update way more than Vampires (Wood Elves, Bretonnians, etc). But yeah, I still want to get rid of them, I haven't played them in years, and I can use the money to fund my Dark Elves and Eldar.

Rumors are Vampire Counts somewhere in early 2012, likely WD Army Book to take into account the vast differences in some regard between VC's and TK's (such as the price of Skeletons), and Necrons... some time soon, likely none too far with the models already being shipped to many non-GW supplies. Q4 of 2011, basically.

Since this IS the "Miniatures gaming" Thread, I figured I ought to post this here.

Anybody know anything about Warmachine? I recently started a Protectorate army that's fairly decent at what it's not supposed to do, but one of the other guys I game with started a Khador army and he literally has no clue where to go from the starter kit. I wanted to see if I could throw together some army building advice for him, since he lacks internet and could have found this shit by now for himself.

I recall SoulKat saying he was gonna start a Khador army (Many moons ago...) so I figured I'd ask around here and see if that took off in any significant way.

I play Warmachine, with Retribution of Scyrah, I've played against Menoth once (and got trashed ;p) but I'm sure I can help you, or SK if he sees this.

A good resource is a site called Battle College. It has a great breakdown of units and jacks for each army.

I really debated running a Retribution army, and it may be the next one I try moving into when I finish my Protectorate army. Just out of curiosity;even with the limited options that RoS has right now, how do they play? I know a good PoM tactic is to get into melee as quickly as possible and deny spell use as early as possible. It seems to me (Just from looking at the unit list, mind) that there's really only two paths to take: A mostly ranged army that's okay in melee, or a melee army that's okay at ranged attacks. If Invictors can fire on a charge that would greatly boost their utility on the field.

I'll take a look at the site you recommended though and get a few words on what he wants to do after that before I post next.

Well, the best BASIC way to describe Retribution is that they play like elves. Meaning that their troops all tend to be specialists, and durability is very rare. So that means that finesse and synergy between units is utterly necessary.

That said, there are some truly nasty units. Mage Hunters get free dice when attacking 'jacks. and with their unit attachment, completely ignore LOS when shooting, allowing you to simply pound anything with very little risk. House Shyeel Battle Mages have a great deal of ability to control the battlefield and disrupt enemy plans, pushing/pulling units just by hitting with their ranged abilities, I have seen many battles end with a brave enemy warcaster being dragged from 10 inches out into the waiting blades of Dawnguard Sentinels.

The list I run has Ravyn as my caster, supported by Sentinels, Mage Hunters, Battle Mages and a pair of heavy jacks. I want to add Stormfall ARchers, or possibly Houseguard Riflemen next.

Ooh, nice. My group played Dark Heresy this summer, and it was fun. The group consisted of two tech-priests, a psyker, a cleric, and assassin and a scum who was played me. One of the tech-priests had a death wish, the cleric was a former warrior from a feral world, and my scum was a con-man who cheated everyone, but in the end we succeeded in the mission. At least partially. :XDToots:

We've got a scum, cleric, tech-priest, guardsman, and psyker. I'm worried that the Psyker will overuse his abilities, because he's used to D&D where psykers can only use their abilities a limited number of times. But that'll probably change the first time he rolls phenomenon
