Alrighty, kittens, class is in session, and today's lesson is in who is going to win the Super Bowl this year.

In one corner, we've got the Atlanta Falcons, and while they are rocking at a pretty high rate, at the onset of the season, none of the major experts had them pegged to make a championship run. That said, I don't think those experts gave much credit to Matt Ryan and Julio Jones putting together an extremely potent offense. Mix in some other key performances by the Freeman and Coleman run game has made the Falcons one hell of a team to watch, and definitely a very respectable representative of the NFC.

On the other hand, we've got the Darth Vader of football, the New England Patriots. There's little that hasn't been said about them already, but to do a quick recap; Tom Brady is maintaining his throne as king of quarterbacks. That really is a lot of what their success is built around. Despite injuries, the Patriots have thrown together a season that was dominant end to end. Likewise, the other aspects of the team like the line and defense are just as solid.

As of this post, the Patriots are a 3-point favorite to win. That's a tiny advantage at best, especially when you consider a team like Atlanta does not really deal in low-scoring games. Both teams are big time offenses and my prediction for the game as a whole is going to be that it's going to be a high scoring shootout. I don't see something like Seattle-Denver in terms of a huge and massive domination by one team over another, but as we get to my pick, I think 3 points will not be correct.

But anyway, I suppose that means it's time for me to make my pick.

Rachael's stone cold lock of the Super Bowl century in 2016 is:

The New England Patriots.

And the reasoning comes down to what I always stick to in games like this: Defense. We've got two quarterbacks and offenses that are both going to be big scoring, guns blazing style and so we need to look at the other side of the ball and determine which defense is better armed to hinder and slow down the opposing offense.

And in this regard, New England has Atlanta outmatched quite strongly. In terms of offensive efficiency, Atlanta is #1 and New England is #2 throughout the season. While on the surface, that puts Atlanta at the advantage, when you look at the defensive efficiency, Atlanta tumbles to #22 while New England sits at #7. And it is right here that the game is going to hinge. Both Atlanta and New England are going to be going big, but only New England is equipped to put the brakes on Matt Ryan while the Falcons will be struggling to contain the Patriot's offense. Which is why I think a 3 point spread is generous. New England will be up by at least a touchdown for most of the game.

It's like I always say, defense wins championships. And that is what's going to win this Sunday. Put your money on it.

Hehe I live in another country far away and all I know about the superbowl is its about football and I know very little about football because we don't have it over here really. So seeing as these Patriots appear to be the popular team I'll root for them
