Some people aren't liking the new concept for this series (lets face it, Netflix has a hit or miss ratio when it comes to series reboots). Taking a character from a PC game who has been a villain for decades, and turning them into an anti-hero, is going to take some getting use to, but I say reserve judgement until it comes out.

I would like to point out one way they can screw this whole show over. If they don't even try to make it educational (which has been what the whole Carmen Sandiego series was about, teaching geography), this is going to be a train wreck.

Not yet. But... crime school? Really? They made crime school a thing??
Well, it fits for an international criminal organization.

I just finally watched the first season, and it is pretty good. Carmen is a very well rounded character, and even going over her origin story about how she was a V.I.L.E trainee, only to leave when she realized how far the organization was willing to go for their own personal gain (mind control, killing, poisoning, etc). A.C.M.E also is in this version as another secret organization trying to prove the existence of V.I.L.E, and try to capture Carmen, as her constantly targeting V.I.L.E operations hints to them she may have leads on them. Even a former Interpol agent who acts as kind of like Zenigatta from Lupin the 3rd, constantly trying to arrest Carmen, regardless if it's clear she's not the criminal (I am glossing over a lot of details to avoid spoilers).

They also have nods to previous Carmen media, such as the A.C.M.E Chief from the original gameshow, and the twins from the late 90s animated series, who now act as Carmen's sidekicks. The character of Player is also a reference to previous media, as it's technically a stand-in for the player of the games. He acts as Carmen's technical support, hacking V.I.L.E files and giving her info on the mission.

Speaking of Player, he also acts as the show's info dump, keeping the educational aspect of the series in general. And they way it's done is very under the radar, so kids may not even know they're learning.

The final episode feels like a good end to a first season, wrapping up some loose ends, but leaving it open for Season 2. I would recommend at least giving it a look.
