Joy is learning all sorts of things her father never mentioned.

And Drake is just being...well..
Drake!

So...Carmesi claims the power manifestation is different for all knights (making each one unique in their own way),wonder what kind of manifestation Joy will have...

Also,I have mixed feelings about Carmesis coment to Ember by "expecting nothing less" when a few pages ago she was about to fail both Ember and Pyro for failing..

Drake: Wow, so Fire Clan can obviously shoot fire and stuff. Joy, what clan are you with anyways.

Joy: Love

Drake: ....*snrk* Well guess your power is gonna be something like making people hug or talk to animals.

Joy: >:(

PS: I miss the emotes.

Mmm interesting so Ember can generate a fire blade type thing I'm guessing nice. So Drake rightfully thinks Ember is hot, I was hoping would HEAT up between them hehe. Also wondering abou Joy's reaction to his comment, is her annoyed expression because she finds Drake just annoying or may it be due to a little jealousy?

So anyway, little serious time here from me. This page and the few that led up to it have been the start of a bit of a lore update and development that has been in the works since Knighthood got its new update schedule. The idea of Clan Abilities has been kicking around for awhile between myself, Chalo and others, but now we're putting them down on paper. And I imagine that part of this is going to be answering some questions about them, and how they work. So if anyone has any, I'll be happy to answer them here.

As for a quick primer on what I wanted to really get across, the idea of a Clan Ability is that it develops as an Acolyte trains to become a Knight. The journey, work with Crests and considerable training and focusing of the mind and body bring it out within the individual. And the way the powers manifest is based on both the individual and his or her Clan. I'm not sure how much we will be able to show (don't want to slow things down TOO much or take too much camera time away from Joy, after all, this is her story), but Pyrro's Clan Ability is very different than Ember's; with his being more showy, flashy and "bursts of flame", while the idea behind Ember's was that it was like a plasma torch, very hot, very focused and very intense.

Well I suppose the first questions is whether anyone is theoretically capable of unlocking a clan ability, or whether the Knight training is in part designed to weed out those who don't have the potential for it. Tangentially, in the wake of Neo-Earth, I do have to wonder if humans have a similar capability to become full knights or whether it remains an exclusively prime thing.

Eh, it can go either way, honestly. Given their relationship so far, I'm more inclined towards the former than the latter.

Ok cool I've been wondering what everyone's abilities will be. Joy in paticular, I doubt her ability will simply be to make people fall in love or something like that. I have several theories, one's really good but I'm not gonna share just yet. I have a question , what if someone is descendant from two or more clans? Like say a members of the fire and love clans get married and a child, and that child when they grow up also gets married to a member of another clan and have a child what then? Will they only inherit one ability from one clan or will it be a combination of all the clans they have in their blood?

Theoretically, any Prime can do it. However, "theoretically" means a great deal, as it involves not only an enormous investment of time, effort and commitment, but also the mindset to use it and tap into one's self and Clan in a very deep and personal manner. The Knight training brings that latent power out of a Prime, and since it is an echo of that Prime's own self, it also follows that the ability would reflect part of that Prime's personality and character. You wouldn't be able to, say, train for fireballs, or train to have Ember's power. Ember's power is hers and hers alone. So not only do you need to go through very tough training, you also need to be able to know yourself on that level, not something that is easily done.

As far as humans go, we haven't discussed it, so I can't give you an answer I am 100% comfortable with. However, there are no human Knights, at least not planned. That said, I'm not setting anything on this matter in stone simply because we haven't talked about it yet.

You've actually hit on something that will become very important. After all, Joy is an aggressive firebrand, who would probably see a "love beam" as something pretty silly. But she is Love clan, so Joy is going to actually be facing some serious struggles balancing her personal identity with that of her Clan. Am I dropping hints about where we're headed next in Knighthood? Yes, yes I am. ;3

As far as "inheritance", Clan identity is loosely carried in families, but it is not a gene. For example, a character may have the Clan of their mother or father, or they may have it from someone higher up in the family tree. That said, Clan identity is a very personal thing, and to pull from an unusual source, it is sort of a "cutie mark" for the Prime. It is what fits that Prime best, not something that is carried in genes strictly. Of course, where one comes from greatly influences things like identity, so there you go.

What kind of power would a rather Dark personality, one that even the prime denies to show or even accept?

I also have a theory that Joy might inspire bravery in others or inspire them in general.

I would think a human knight would be an exceptionally rare thing. IIRC primes and humans can interbreed though offspring of such pairings are rare so I would assume a knight rising from the ranks of such hybrids would be something not even Ambar would anticipate. Heck, that Primes and humans can even interbreed what with them being two sepperate species and one being alien to boot.... it leaves me wondering if the Dragon Gods of the Primes "tweaked" humanity a bit when then created NeoEarth out of the remains of old Earth.

Well, the ability would probably not manifest at all, unfortunately. The Clan Ability manifests as one's own self-mastery and acceptance grows. If an Acolyte is denying or outright rejecting that aspect of themselves, it is not going to grow, and likely that Acolyte will remain just that, an incomplete Acolyte. After all, one cannot master themselves if they are outright denying whole aspects of what they are and ideas at the core of their being.

But what? That's it? No closing line?
Eh?

I was wondering why Drake didn't finish that sentence.
Maybe because he saw the look on Joy's face ?
[doublepost=1490244391,1490244245][/doublepost]Another question, can Drake manifest a clan ability ? If he were to join the fire clan for example would he develop a fire themed ability ?
