TBH Id I don't think this is a good idea. I like the sub forums for each artist. It's one of the ways I keep tabs when each one respectively updates and personally do not find it a hassle to have said subforums.

Feel like if you have all of the topics dumped into one area it would get especially cluttered.

Yes, I could see why you would thinks, but the prefix system is rather quite advanced, you click on one, and suddenly all the topics are filtered to show that prefix on the fly. It's far easier to try the system first, if it's generally not well received we can always make a ton of folders and shuffle things afterwards.
