Definitively Capcom's response to Mighty No.9. Even though it was a bomb, the money given to it in that kickstarter must be enough of motivator for Capcom to realize there still MM fans still willing to pay money for him.
Based on something said during the livestream in which this game was announced (as well as X1-X8 being released for all of the current consoles, likely as a compilation), part of the problem may very well have been that the actual workers at Capcom were hesitant to want to make a Mega Man game without Inafune, but it recently struck them that it has been quite a long time since there's been a game and so they decided to finally do something about it. Regardless of whether or not it's a response to Mighty No.9, it obviously took a lot of guts on their part to finally make another game.
Hopefully this is the first of many (please let there be something more than this, at least). We're still owed answers to the cliffhangers in X8, ZX Advent, and Legends 2, and I'm sure there's probably things that can still be done with the Battle Network/Star Force world.
