Starting January 24th is going to be Lunar New Year (or Chinese New Year) event, which they're calling Year of the Rooster.
Overwatch’s next seasonal event looks like it will be themed around the Chinese New Year (or Spring Festival), according to a tweet from the game’s official account. Overwatch’s Year of the Rooster event will kick off next Tuesday, Jan. 24, a few days ahead of Chinese New Year.
A Blizzard spokesperson confirmed to Polygon that Overwatch’s Year of the Rooster event will be similar in scope to previous game events, such as Halloween Terror and Winter Wonderland. Those limited-time events included new character skins, sprays, voice lines, emotes and other cosmetic items. They also featured new gameplay modes, like Junkenstein’s Revenge and Mei’s Snowball Offensive.
Oh how I hope this will scramble the freaking Rein and Road meta that's been there forever. Yes, Rein is fun to play as long as you have a competent team but shielding air is incredibly frustrating and gets old very quickly. And people have played Roadhog so freaking much now that there are a lot of Roadhogs out there with surgical precision on the hooks. And yea Doomfist would also have been nice but my worries are that he/she will be another flanker attacker and everyone will think they can play that stuff and we'll have another wave of "pro Genji's"...
Yea, robot death pony sounds about right. She has so, much, damage!
Probably the only one besides Road that counters Road atm. Quite happy they left her out of comp for the time being. I can only imagine Orisa and the new Lucio together...
So, Blizzard's been taking Overwatch fans on a little bit of a hype ride the last few weeks. First, there's the newest Overwatch comic, Uprising. This gave us a little bit of insight as to what happened in the events leading up to, or around, the infamous Switzerland incident.
Second, there was just a leak -- intentional or no -- of the trailer for a content update that's coming as soon as tomorrow, as of this post(!). The leaked trailer can be seen here -- albeit it's targeted for the console version of the game and it's in French. I'll splurge about what it shows in spoiler tags, to spare others.
The comic tells us of a new extremist group -- called Null Sector -- which seeks to go to war with the British government over oppressing omnic citizens, despite the integral part they play in providing manual labor and technical services to the British people. The result is an incident that takes place seven years prior to the game's timeline, and they're calling it the King's Row Uprising. It appears to be an all-out, urban battle between Null Sector omnics and members of the Overwatch team -- namely Blackwatch members like McCree. Gabriel Reyes won't really elaborate on what Blackwatch is doing on the ground before things pick up, but the comic leads up to Overwatch sending a strike team of it's members -- namely veteran members Reinhardt, Torbjorn, and Mercy as well as rookie cadet Tracer.
This brings us to this revealed trailer for the upcoming content in what appears to be called Insurrection, which is going to center around a new PvE mode somewhat similar to the one they had during the Halloween event. As stated before, the strike team is Reinhardt, Torbjorn, Mercy, and Tracer, and it looks like they're trying to push their way through a battle-torn King's Row to get to some kind of device set up by the combative Null Sector members. The star of the show seems to be the skins, which includes.
Guerrilla(?) Widowmaker (pre-Talon, note the skin tone)
This is just from what I made out from the trailer, of course.
So Heroes of the Storm is currently in the middle of an Overwatch event. This current week is giving players the opportunity to unlock Oni Genji for Overwatch and next week will give you the chance to unlock Police Officer D.Va.
We Doomfist now, boys.
[doublepost=1499367071,1499364272][/doublepost]I looked at the new hero page for Doomfist here. It seems that Blizzard may have finally made a melee character that's viable for Overwatch -- similar to Reinhardt.
Also, his backstory seems to elaborate on the Talon organization, a bit. It appears that the second Doomfist -- known as the Scourge -- may have been responsible for their creation. It also appears that they intend to cause conflict in the world because war and strife lead to evolution and advancement, in their eyes. This would make sense, since they're trying to wipe out the remaining Overwatch agents (to avoid vigilantes that intervene, like Tracer) and sow further chaos (i.e., assassinate Mondatta in an attempt to cause a second Uprising).
As if in sync with this solar eclipse that's going on, Blizzard has released a couple of videos to tease about an upcoming map. First, they showed us a little short starring Junkrat and Roadhog.
To elaborate further on their 'plan', Blizzard has released this tease of the upcoming payload map hinted in the short.
In addition to the new payload escort map, it looks like we're going to learn more about the Junkers that call Australia home. I'm interested in this queen character, since we hear her voice and see a glimpse of her weapon of choice -- a spear -- in the map.
[doublepost=1503510807,1503335387][/doublepost]In time for Gamescon, Blizzard released a new animated short.
Warning for lethal amounts of cute and feels. It isn't Lucio, though, which is a bummer.
That was a great video for reinhardt and its fantastic to finally see the story behind the map and behind him. "Don't worry my friends! I will be your shield!"
