The universe is separate from the multiverse rather than an aspect of it? *starts pondering implications*
It's a concept that, rather than all existing in the same "place" just at different "frequencies" or something like that, the multiverse here is a collection of universes all outside. So beyond the edge of the universe are other universes, some expanding, some shrinking, some never changing, some stable, some unstable, etc etc. Kinda like how atoms make up molecules and molecules make up objects expanding to planets, expanding to solar systems, to clusters, to galaxies etc etc- and then you have "Universes" making up Multiverses- and perhaps even Multiverses making up something even bigger.
